ABOUT TOURING

CAST Touring is the National Exhibitions Touring Support (NETS) agency in Tasmania and is affiliated with NETS Australia. CAST Touring manages all aspects of the development and tour of travelling exhibitions of contemporary art, craft and design through intrastate and national public gallery networks.

This agency works to provide a range of services across the initial planning of exhibitions and the preparation for touring, the management and coordination of exhibitions on tour; and the provision of information and advice to public exhibition venues.

The Touring Exhibition Program endeavours to maintain a balance of exhibition types and art forms from across the fields of contemporary art, craft and design and to include works by emerging and established artists. The program seeks to maintain a range of exhibitions that meet the needs of urban, regional and remote audiences in Tasmanian and elsewhere. CAST Touring also aims to support the strategic objectives of public galleries and organisations in Tasmania through the provision of services, support and advice.

CAST Touring manages and administers other initiatives, including:

> an Exhibition Development Fund (EDF) that assists public galleries and independent curators in the research phase of developing a travelling exhibition for touring.

see Exhibition Development Fund program

> an annual Curatorial Mentorship Program which supports an emerging curator to develop an intrastate touring exhibition with assistance from professional staff. The successful applicant to this program receives funding to research their project.

see Curatorial Mentorship program

> a Craft Mentorship program aimed at emerging practitioners. The program provides an opportunity for the successful applicant to develop a training program with a mentor of their choice. A 12-week living allowance for the trainee and fees for the mentor are funded. This opportunity is provided through the Visual Arts/Crafts Board (VCAB) and is subject to ongoing funding.

Exhibitions on the CAST Touring Program are selected from proposals that will be funded and developed through public galleries and visual arts organisations in Tasmania.
