> Comprise of contemporary art, craft or design by professional practitioners working in any medium.
> Curated, group and artist-initiated exhibitions
> Post-graduate students can be involved in group, artist-initiated and curated exhibitions providing that artwork does not form part of formal academic assessment

> Under-graduate students
> Post-graduate students applying for solo exhibitions while enrolled in an academic art institution

Program Structure

CAST is committed to producing a diverse exhibition program that is made up of local, national and international contemporary art, craft and design by emerging and established practitioners. The annual exhibition program consists of eight exhibitions presented at the CAST Gallery, the CAST Members Exhibition and other projects developed by CAST for ‘off-site’ venues. CAST also hosts special projects and events in the gallery. These take place only if they do not impinge in any way on the exhibition program.

CAST exhibitions are scheduled at least one year ahead of presentation.

The Exhibition Committee assesses all proposals and activities that directly relate to CAST exhibitions.

Proposal Guidelines

CAST encourages proposals that involve the development of new work, or the exploration of a particular area. In these instances the ideas that inform the proposed exhibition must be clearly articulated within both the written and the visual material submitted. Proposals can be submitted for exhibitions that have already been developed. In these cases it may be necessary to make minor modifications in order for the exhibition to be appropriate to CAST.

Preference is given to exhibitions that are of an experimental and innovative nature.

The following material must be included in all applications:

> Names of all participants
> Contact details
> Up-to-date curriculum vitae for all participants
> A clear and concise description of the exhibition – proposed work and concept (max. of one A4 page).
> Slides, 8 – 10 for a solo exhibition and 10 – 20 for a group exhibition. Label clearly with the author’s name, title of the work, year, dimensions, medium and arrow indicating the top of the image. Slides are the preferred format for 2D work. Where appropriate, CD-ROM (Mac and PC compatible), DVD or video
> A slide list
> Preferred dates. Please indicate if there is a specific reason why the exhibition must occur within a particular time frame
> Include a stamped self-addressed envelope for the return of material

Proposals must not be submitted in folders, binding or configured for free standing display in any way. Please present proposals on plain white paper and secure with paperclips only.
