BAD SAMARITANS presents video work and documentation by international contemporary artists using the physical body as a tool for challenging social and political engagement. Mia Bailey, Kira O’Reilly and the Voina group use the immediacy of performance and digital media as medium and documentary tools to explore differing reactions to the body politic. Through varying approaches the works explore living in a political environment in which the artists adopt depictive or real engagement in acts of so-called deviance - going against the law or national ideology – as a mode of creating work reflective of the political climate in which they live.
By engaging, to differing degrees, in content often deviating from that sanctioned under the social norm, these artists’ works provoke distinct atmospheres of instability and unrest within contemporary global culture.
Their works exude covert undertones of both intimacy and exhibitionism.
