Tristan Stowards is a visual artist and performer. His practice examines the constant negotiations at work between art and the viewer. Stowards has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Tasmanian School of Art. He has studied traditional marionette making in the Czech Republic, and in 2005 he undertook the CAST emerging curator mentorship. Stowards has worked extensively in theatre and film and puppetry.
“In my practice I explore the connections between art, the artist, and the viewer, and the role of the viewer as an integral contributor to making meaning. My work inhabits a space within visual art, performance and everyday life. I work across many themes including food, ritual and routine, instruction and advice, and the automobile. Always at the core of my work is a breaking down of artwork/viewer expectations.”
Recent exhibitions include Heroes, Heroines, Villains and Victims from the Golden Age of Motoring, BettGallery@Raincheck, Real Good Draw-er, and Thanks for having us, Six_A, Inflight, the first five years, Inflight Art, Behind the Scenes at the Museum, Yarra Sculpture Gallery, and Amazing New Car Gala-Launch Spectacular!
