Astra Howard is an action researcher/performer working predominantly within public city spaces.Over the past ten years Howard has designed and produced over one hundred site-specific experimental works locally in cities across Australia and Internationally in such diverse locations as Beijing, Paris, New York and Delhi. More recently her post doctoral projects have been commissioned by city council’s, state government departments, community and arts organizations as effective means to gather information about a location, to generate dialogue and debate amongst members of the public and to reinvigorate city spaces. Howard has also worked for ten years within the social welfare sector, currently in a full-time capacity designing and facilitating educational programs and professional services for the homeless, marginalised and disadvantaged community within crisis accommodation services in Sydney.
