Born in New South Wales, Geoff Parr moved to Hobart in the mid 1950s. Parr's substantial contribution to visual culture in Tasmania and to art education nationally was recognized with an Australia Medal awarded in 2007. Since his inclusion in Australian Perspecta (1983 and 1985) he has exhibited his photographic and installation works in several significant exhibitions in Australia and overseas. Parr's prolific exhibitions activity has increased since his retirement from the University of Tasmania. Tellingly, the inclusion of his exhibition Forest Wispers, 2005, at the artist-run-initiative, Inflight Art, is a marker of the high value young Tasmanian artists accord him. His work is held in many major public collections in Australia.
