OSSA Design was launched in July 2000 with a small range of around 20 products, a number of which are still in the current range. OSSA Design is a small practice owned and run by Karen Harvey producing timber kitchenware and related functional products. Developed for a niche market with capped manufacture, OSSA Design's products are designed, marketed and distributed in house by Karen, while primary physical production is outsourced locally. The principle makers for OSSA design are the workshops of Renus Jansen and Michael Gaskell, with completed pieces returning to OSSA's base in rural southern Tasmania for final finishing, packaging and distribution. The use of local Tasmanian timbers is a feature of OSSA's product range, with an approach to design that is end user focussed, delivering functional pieces at an appropriate price point. OSSA's products are sold through kitchenware and design stores, galleries and other outlets throughout Australia, with some specialist products designed and made for corporate clients, either as one-off pieces or in small runs.
