A solo exhibition of photographs by prominent Tasmanian artist, Simon Cuthbert, requires we look twice at the urban and suburbab environement around us. Cuthbert photographs the spaces of the city that contain physical evidence or symbols forgotten, neglected or unrealised dreams. The photographs present stories of the streets through the lens of a deadpan, 'objective' camera. He uses bureaucratic vision. The irony is that his photographic subjects come to life, beautifully, hauntingly, charmingly, under this institutionalised gaze.
