Out of Site comprises six Tasmanian artists’ responses to various sites of incarceration in colonial Van Dieman’s Land incorporating painting, sculpture, video, printmaking and digital imaging. The show examines the residual psychological presence that haunts these sites, and the transformation that occurs when site-specific work is removed from its original context. In the relocation of these space and place-specific works, Out of Site highlights the lives lived within these historic walls, bringing together a contemporary view of the men, women and children who were placed ‘out of sight, out of mind’.
Out of Site is an outcome of the CAST Curatorial Mentorship Program.
